Welcome to the virtual tour of The Polynesian Cultural Center
The Polynesian Cultural Center - dedicated to the preservation of old Polynesia, it's
arts, skills and customs. Even if you've rented a car, check out the bus schedules to and
from Honolulu.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is a short drive up the north coast from
Honolulu. It's a must see and bring plenty of film...ASA 400 or better for the night show.
If you ignore the other tourists and modern conveniences, it's like
stepping back in time.
An example of canoe making..a lot larger than what I'm used to.
Talk about your little grass shack....
Beautiful attention to interior detail.
Many demonstrations of the ancient skills are presented...fire making
here.
Palm tree climbing here. Better him than me!
Waterways abound throughout the Center. You can take a waterborne tour of
the entire complex. It's well worth the time and is relaxing as well.
Toward the end of the day, mock ceremonies are presented featuring
traditional dress and other regalia.
Fearsome looking warrior - Wouldn't you hate to meet him on a dark
beach...
If you can stay late, The Center presents a beautiful show..music, dance,
fire. It's a wealth of photo ops.
Story-telling accompanies the action.
The pace accelerates...
...building up to...
...the grand finale. You'll be glad you stayed even if you get temporarily
lost on the way back to town like we did. Thank goodness it was an island so all we had to
do was just keep driving and stay out of the water!
